On the 26th June 2023 our family were hit with the devastating news that our dad (Ati) was diagnosed with MND (motor neuron disease) and early stages of dementia. For those that are not aware of what MND is, in short; it is when the nerves in your body start to shut down and generally starts in your legs and works its way through the entire body. Because my dad was not able to safely stay home alone, my mum (Lei) had to cut her hours at work and booked an appointment with work and income here in Christchurch for some assistance. My parents were declined any help from WINZ and were left embarrassed with how they were treated that day. My mother was determined to find a way around this and knew she was eligible for some sort of support… This is when our communications started with Julz Little and Kevin Murray who work for the Advocate.
Since our first email on the 28.06.2023 with Julz, they continued to show constant support and reinforced our family that we would get the help that we needed. The constant back and forth for nearly 4 months, Julz was able to get Temporary support and a disability allowance which has helped tremendously.
Words or actions cannot express our extreme gratitude towards The Advocate, but specifically Julz. The diagnosis itself was hard but putting financial stress on top on that, anyone could have spiraled into a deep hole. Our family will always be in debt with how much they have helped us and this testimony is a small token of our appreciation for their help.
Thank you again Advocate Julz and Kevin! You guys are amazing and I hope God blesses you all abundantly.
